Felix Becker uses paper as a visual medium. As with his canvases, he always applies several different colored, monochrome, impasto-like layers of paint to his works on paper, which he breaks up and partially removes again using various means. This technique, which is reminiscent of sculptural methods, not only allows deeper layers of color to shine through back to surface, but also adds a narrative element to the minimalist approach. Through this particular procedure, the artist transforms the two-dimensional sheet of paper into a colored object. The delicacy of foldable paper is now replaced by a stable, condensed object, which Becker presents floating in spacer frames.
Felix Becker studied fine art under Prof. Valérie Favre and Prof. Thomas Zipp at the Berlin University of Arts. In 2021 he graduated as a master student of Prof. Thomas Zipp and was nominated for the President's Prize for Master Students. In the same year he received the Thoma Foundation Recognition Award.
