KARL PRANTL
Pöttsching 1923 - 2010 Pöttsching
HANS BISCHOFFSHAUSEN
Feld am See 1927 - 1987 Villach
A multifaceted artistic dialogue unfolds between Karl Prantl, the stone sculptor, and the painter Hans Bischoffshausen, who explores the boundaries of the genre, in this exhibition project realized by the Galerie bei der Albertina Zetter together with the galerie artziwna. What superficially unites the pictorial works of the two unconventional artistic personalities is the (seemingly) pure aesthetic of their oeuvre. Collective design parameters such as material-relatedness, reduction, structure and monochrome, which were indispensable for both Karl Prantl and Hans Bischoffshausen, are thematized. From a biographical point of view, the year 1959 marked a decisive turning point in Prantl's and Bischoffshausen's lives: in 1959, Hans Bischoffshausen moved to Paris, the world capital of art at the time, while Karl Prantl initiated the first of several pioneering international sculpture symposia in the local quarry in St. Margarethen, Burgenland. For Karl Prantl and Hans Bischoffshausen, who both took part in the first sculptors' symposium in Krastal near Villach in 1967, life and work merged into an inseparable, indispensable unit.
