Herbert Warmuth
Born 1960 in Schweinfurt, DE
Lives and works in Frankfurt am Main, DE
In Herbert Warmuth's paintings, different concepts of painting emerge, creating different approaches to the medium. Using materials such as fabric, wood, plexiglass and paint, his works have an object-like character, but are anything but monumental. Like any painter, he works with colour, but the colour he uses is not exclusively that which painters normally use. Furthermore, his conceptual work develops between the inseparable unity of colour and form. Another aspect that characterises Warmuth's work is his approach to space. Since the beginning of his practice, his works have abandoned the limitations of the canvas. In his most recent series, he uses pieces of plexiglass to preserve the colour. And to make us aware of the fact that what protects can also restrict, Warmuth cuts through the surface of the painting, metaphorically liberating the paint, allowing it to spill out and breathe.
