The artistic practice of Artjom Chepovetskyy unfolds between painting, object, drawing, and space. Starting from his observation of urban structures and architectural fragments, he develops an abstract visual language that deliberately transcends classical categories. His work transforms rather than depicts — condensing matter and gesture into spatial presence while questioning how material and perception interact.
A vital part of his oeuvre consists of paper works created through experimental techniques of folding and pigmentation. Released from their geometric order, the sheets extend physically into space, oscillating between surface and volume, image and object. Their fragility and tension reveal how minimal gestures can shift balance and resonance.
In his chiffon works, Chepovetskyy expands painting into airy, three‑dimensional constellations. Layers of transparent fabric suspend clouds of colour that hover in space — floating fields of light and vibration in which form and void become interchangeable. His art thus explores a central question: How can painting become space? Through quiet interventions and porous structures, he allows material to carry meaning through pure presence.
Artjom Chepovetskyy (b. 1984 in Odesa, Ukraine) lives and works in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He studied Philosophy (2007–2016) and Fine Arts at the Art Academy Mainz, where he was taught by Thomas Schmidt, Klaus Vogelgesang, Gabriele Basch, Andrea Büttner, and Anne Berning.
He has received, among others, the Förderpreis für Künstler (Mainz 2018), the Eb‑Dietzsch Art Award for Painting(Gera 2018), and the Wolfgang‑Blanke Foundation Award for Painting (Mainz 2022). Since 2019 he has been represented by Galerie Heike Strelow, Frankfurt.
La práctica artística de Artjom Chepovetskyy se sitúa entre la pintura, el objeto, el dibujo y el espacio. A partir de la observación de estructuras urbanas y fragmentos arquitectónicos, desarrolla un lenguaje visual abstracto que trasciende deliberadamente las categorías clásicas. Su obra no representa sino que transforma la materia y el gesto en presencia espacial, explorando cómo el material y la percepción pueden entrelazarse.
Una parte esencial de su producción está compuesta por trabajos en papel, creados mediante técnicas experimentales de plegado y pigmentación. Liberadas de su orden geométrico, las hojas se extienden en el espacio, oscilando entre superficie y volumen, entre imagen y objeto. Su fragilidad y tensión revelan cómo gestos mínimos pueden alterar la percepción y el equilibrio.
En sus obras de chiffon, Chepovetskyy amplía la pintura hacia constelaciones tridimensionales y ligeras. Capas de tejido transparente suspenden nubes de color que flotan en el espacio — campos luminosos y vibrantes donde forma y vacío se confunden. Su arte plantea una pregunta fundamental: ¿Cómo puede la pintura convertirse en espacio? A través de gestos silenciosos y estructuras porosas, el material adquiere significado mediante su pura presencia.
