Hendrik Zimmer
(*1973 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany; lives and works in Frankfurt am Main, Germany)
Since late 2021, Hendrik Zimmer has focused on reinterpreting the ancient technique of woodcut. His works feature bold contours, stylized surfaces, and strict geometries, blending materiality and artistic creation in a process he describes as “painting through sculpture.” Zimmer merges forms from various contexts to create unique visual worlds, drawing from his fascination with beauty and human complexity.
His recent works highlight his passion for posters, book illustrations, and printed matter, incorporating influences from the European avant-garde and Japanese printmakers. Using coarser canvases and experimenting with paper, Zimmer creates vibrant, one-of-a-kind pieces that evoke the spirit of 20th-century art while bearing his distinct style.
